Dangers and Death
The earth does not care about us humans. It will kill us as readily as it will sustain us and the Earth will turn long after we’re gone. While we take for granted the solid and stable ground beneath our feet, in a moment that same ground can rift, erupt, sink or slide and exact a deadly toll on unfortunate bystanders. Geologically-related disasters can happen unexpectedly, leaving humans feeling vulnerable and unnerved. We can not control the great power of earth processes, driven by its internal engine. The Hazards section of this website describes events where special circumstances caused rare or remarkable features or events that were dangerous, destructive, or deadly. Examples include sinkholes, fissures, quicksand, landslides, and gas vents. Hazard areas may also be associated with spooky Places or Earth Mysteries.
